Driving License Class~~~

Hi dearie blog!

Last Sunday,I went to Akademi Memandu Nilai (AMN) for my very first time of driving license class.As another people must do before learn how to drive car,so do i,I need to listen to a KPP for about 5 hours which was so tiring but informative.Luckily,Sarah was there so it was not so boring hehehe.Actually,i was planned to took some pics there but cam malas la pulak hehehe..so no pics there...huhuhu..hopefully,i can learn driving successfully amin~:)

things that happened last couple of days~~

actually since what day (forgot already) i want to write something here..but dont have the time..so tonight since there's a time so i here i am!hehehe

thursday:quite challenging day for me to handle something but its ok as long as i am persevere InsyaAllah i can do it!you can do it dayah!:)

friday:oh my god!the day that i felt so bad day.....eventhough there was no class,but because of to settled my responsibility on booking bus for H.I.PMFSSK 2009,so i went out from my lovely room from 8pm something if i am not mistaken to PPBL first to have consultation for translations but it had been cancelled. went to pusaneka want to meet to cik wan but she got meeting.luckily i met with her and she asked me to take the letter at 2.45 or 3.00pm...aiyo need to wait pulak...to cut it short,i went to JPPel at 2.45 but closed,3.00 closed too and almost 3.20 or something like that then it only opened.honestly,i'm quite tension at that time because what i need to do just take the letter which only take time about less than 5 minutes but the time that i need to spent only to get the letter is more than hours...arghhh!

after that,need to go to unit kenderaan near to kkm...since i'm i dont want give trouble to people so i went there by myself...quite far i guess because need to walkdown along the kkm ....as soon as i arrived there,i thought i can get the bus since i have the support letter from cik wan and farah said safa already talked it to en din..but i totally wrong!!!en din said i cant get the bus because there's no busses left!!!whats daa...where is all the busses..!he said the bussses are used for the convocation day...ok fine...another thing,when i asked him is safa has called you about it,he said not!what happen here...aiyaaaaa...en din asked me to use the bus service that have on that day which is zon 6 bus...hmm...at that time i felt so down and just want to cry...the thing that i have been did it since morning went like that...so that with dissappointed i went to kkm cafe to called farah about this...at that time my handphone's battery was empty so i need to use publicphone...what a 'wonderful' day..huhu...at that time it was raining quite heavily and i felt like in drama...sad+raining=symbolic of my tears hahaha:P after called farah and safa called en din and i called farah again..in the end ....jeng..jeng..jeng..still dont get the bus....~~~
the lesson i get from this day:whatever happen,be patient!

saturday:rehearsal for H.I PMFSSK..omg!i'm the mc of the event...so nervous and it easy to be the mc...after this i will never critize another mc huhuhu~~lesson:new exposure,so think positive!

sunday:bus oh bus where are bus..'u' said every 30 minutes has bus..where are u bus..lalala~~(i'm being sarcastic for a while huhuhu)the moment of truth!i'm the mc of the programme...aiya...so nervous maaa....i think i'm quite fast and my informal session was so horror!sorry my friends..i think i'm failed as mc...~

lesson:if have any chances,i'll improve it..or i wont be mc anymore heee~

BUT i think all that happened were experiences to me that teach me to be strong in whatever problems that occured~

1. Do you enjoy blogging?

Yes, I am enjoy blogging. It is because when I’m blogging I can share my story, opinion and whatever that I want to share in good and interesting way. It is because my handwriting is not good as my friends so that it is demotivated me to write something, but with blogging I don’t have to worry about that anymore J

While what I mean by interesting way is, I can make my story or opinion more interesting by uploading pictures or videos to make the story more lively, reachable and understandable to my readers.

2.Based on your experience what is the benefit of blogging?

The benefits of blogging is vary. From my experience, blogging can assist me to enhance my writing skill in term of my confidence to voice out my thought and also be brave to do mistakes. It is because I know that I’m not a good writer so that I need to practise a lot to write. I hope with practise a lot, I’ll become a good writer one day. Besides that, by blogging I can share my opinion to my friend’s blog by giving feedback from what they wrote in their blog. By blogging also make me exposed to ICT broader than before J

3.Do you need more assistance to set up your blog ?

I think I don’t need any assistance since the step to set up the blog is easy we as students should explore the ICT in order to make our blog more interesting.

4.Do you have any memorable/favorite topic in your blog?

My memorable or favourite topic in my blog is the first post which is reading for information where I did the post with all my heart because it is about my interest which is learning foreign language. Other than that, my favourite topic is about philosophy under a topic entitled ‘What’s yours?’ where I shared my philosophy there and some of my friends did response to it.

5.List 5 advantages of blogging for you

1) Enhance my writing skill

POST 5:CONCORDANCE

Hello readers how are you?

For this post, i will talk about concordance. Before the lecture, i don't have any idea what is concordance. Is it concordance is a subject?Is concordance is a tool?Hmm..thank god after the lecture i understand what is the concordance.

According to www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/concordance, concordance is functional as s noun and the meaning of it is an alphabetical index of words in a book or the worksof an author with their immediate contexts.

Summary for first article.

This article entitled Concordancers in ELT submitted by Nik Peachy on 25 April,2005. This article consisted five points which are brief explanation about what is concordance, how can concordancers help the teachers, ideas for using concordancers with students, some possible problems while using concordancers and conclusion for this article. For the first point, a concordancer is a software which can be used to search, access and analyse language from the corpus. It is very useful in exploring the relationship between words and to have accurate information about the language used. Secondly, some ways that concordancers can help the teachers which are teachers can have the exact infomations about the language used, therefore teachers can use the exact information to teach to their students. Next, some ideas that are teachers can do to teach concordancers to the students which are exploring collocations, looking at the students mistakes, understanding the different uses or meaning, finding genuine examples and materials creation.However, there are some problems using concordancers such as sometime there limitation in terms of informations used and not all teachers can teach the students using internet,there it will create problem for teachers to teach use the concordancers. For conclusion point, the writer said, it is not easy for both teachers and students to teach and learn using new tools. The writer advised both side practice using it because practice make perfect.

Summary for second article.

For this second article written by John Flowerdew entitled Concordancing in Language Learning.

It is about concordancing defined as is a means of accessing a corpus of text to show how any given word or phrase in the text is used in the immediate contexts in which it appears. By grouping the uses of a particular word or phrase on the computer screen or in printed form, the concordancer shows the patterns in which the given word or phrase is typically used. Besides that, concordancing has many applications such as in the field of lexicography and dictionary making. The best available software for language teaching application has until recently been the Longman Mini Concordancer. This software has many benefits such as easy to be use and with limited instruction students can very quickly start the programmes themselves. The objective to use concordancing are to help the students discover grammartical rules and searching synonym. For the teachers, concordancing is use to use the concordancer as a resource to inform teacher's appreciation of linguistic usage and also as a source of input of teaching. As the conclusion, concordancing helps the teachers and students learn language better way.

My feedback:

After having lecture and read some articles regarding concordance, in my opinion it is very good that we have been exposed with this topic. It is because by concordancing by using the concordancer we have lists of words in contexts which can helps us to analyse and understand the text better and more in depth. Therefore we can analyse the pattern of the text or analyse the hidden meaning behind the text from the word lists. In addition, we can know the same words but in different contexts accurately. This topic is suitable for English Language Studies and Literature's students in order to get accurate information about the English text that we read so that we can understand and explain to people accurately.

POST 4: ONLINE DATABASES SUBSCRIBED BY TUN SERI LANANG LIBRARY

Hello everybody!How are you?This time I will share with you about my visitation to Tun Seri Lanang Library on last Tuesday(17 March 2009).

We were asked to go to PTSL to find out information about Dissertation Online (DOA) and used the databases online subscribed by PTSL which are EBSCOHOST and LISA NET to find two articles regarding topics already given by our respected lecturer.

For your information PTSL has been subscribing to the online databases since 1999 in order to fulfil the growing needs of education,learning and research in UKM. Until now, there are about 37 titles availables and it is hoped that, these online databases would upgrade the library information searching services as well as to cater the customers's information needs.

What is EBSCOHOST?

EBSCOSOST is a fulltext information in various fields. Title of databases includes:Business Source Complete, Academic Search Elite, Business Source Premier, Eric, Health Business Fulltext Elite, MAS Ultra School Edition, Medline, Nursing & Allied Health Collection:Comprehensive, PsycINFO, PsycArticles, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection and MAS Ultra-Public Library Edition.

What is LISA NET?

Bibliographic information on library and information science.

What is the purposes of DOA?

DOA is purposed for the students to find journal and any article that are related to academic writing.Usually third year students, master and PHD students are using journals as references for their thesis.

This journal is about the ICT Industry in New Zealand with a question to be asked whether gender factor still be a matter there especially for women. It is because last 30 years it can be seen many by many reasons such as the stereotyping of computer culture majored by 'geeks' and 'nerds', the lack of critical mass of women in ICT and the rate of change in the industry make women difficult to re-enter the industry after a break for childbearing and rearing. Other than that, the study also confirmed the reasons why the female representation is low, it is because women commenting on attributes on the computing culture that included the competitive,high pressure, aggresive nature of the industry and the requirements for a long hour.

Jounal Title: Malaysian women entrepreneurs:understanding the ICT usage behaviors and drivers

Below is the summary of article that I found from LISA NET.

In this article, the research is to find out about the extent and the pattern of information and communication technology or better known as ICT and also the impact of personal used of ICT, used by women entrepreneurs in Malaysia. The respondents of this research is the members of National Association of Women Entrepreneurs in Malaysia or NAWEM. The results shows some of the respondents used the ICT for doing task, used systems for administrative,planning and control purposes and some used basic and advanced systems. For personal traits such as innovativeness and risk-tasking propensity are significantly correlated with usage.

My Feedback:

MY FEEDBACK

From my experience before and after do this task, there is lots of new info that I have gathered. Firstly, before I do this task I always think that Yahoo.com is the best search engine. It is because of factor my account email is Yahoo, so that I can simply search the information that I wanted since I already viewing the page. In addition, at the yahoo.com page has different features such as news and entertainment. Thus, I can simply know the latest news and read it at that time. Then, I know about google.com and always use it because google has special features which is I can select information from Malaysia if I want to. So, it can narrow my scope only in Malaysia.

Then, after some research to do this task, now I know that there are alternative search engines that I can use to search information. For example I can use Google Scholar for better and more information. On the other hand, if I want to find article on education, I will use Ericdigest.org because the search engine is purposely to broad educational community. There are lots of article in there. Besides that, for mamma.com there is special features which are yellow pages and white pages. In my opinion, time by time with practising use these search engines, I will get used of using them.

In the end of the day, I think I am prefer to use yahoo.com because there are many features there and its easier for me to do many things in one time which are check my email and find information there.

POST 2: HOW BLOGGING CAN ASSIST LANGUAGE LEARNERS TO IMPROVE AND ENHANCE THEIR WRITING SKILL

This is a research made by a group of researcher from University of Florida which are Wendy Drexler, Kara Dawson and Richard E. Ferdig entitled “Collaborative Blogging as a Means to Develop Elementary Expository Writing Skills”.

Here are some important points from the research that I want to share with all of you regarding blog and how blogging can assist language learners to improve and enhance their writing writing skill.

-Results indicated that collaborative blogging improved students’ attitudes toward writing.

-Feedback generated from the collaboration, rather than the use of technology itself, increased students’ motivation to write.

-Collaborative blogging improved students’ writing and supported development of related skills and knowledge.

-In addition to these intended outcomes, a number of unintended benefits emerged from the project. Students transferred knowledge learned during the collaborative project to other academic and social facets of the classroom.

-Students’ technology skills improved even though official technology-related instruction was not provided. Students developed visual literacy skills as they transformed the essays into online presentations.

-Finally, collaborative blogging enabled differentiated instruction while ensuring success for each student.


In this research the researchers have suggested that :

-Educational blogs employ technology to offer practice, thoughtful feedback, and revisions based on feedback—fundamental steps in the writing process to improve student writing (Williams, 2003).

-Blogs also expand writing time by extending beyond the classroom environment and traditional school schedule constraints.

-They can be about any topic, allowing for multiple cross-curricular projects.

-The comment feature of blogs provides the opportunity for feedback from anyone in the world creating limitless collaborative options.

-In sum, they are potentially powerful collaborative tools to build writing ability .


Other than that:

Blog is short for ‘Web log’; it is best described as an online journal. The term ‘Web log’ was coined by Jorn Barger in 1997 (Blood, 2000). However, Justin Hall, who began his personal online journal in 1994, is considered to be one of the first bloggers. Over 4 million Weblogs had been created by the middle of 2003 and over 60 million were created by May 2005 (Huann, Ow, & Ho Pau Yuen, 2005). There are more than 900,000 blog posts a day with a new blog created every second (Richardson, 2005).

-Blogs can be about any topic and can include pictures or even video.

-They often incorporate links to other blogs or websites.

-Most, though not all, blogs provide the option for readers to comment on the journal entry.This feature makes blogging a truly social communication tool.

-Blogging also provides a vehicle for sharing feelings and insights with the world without ever leaving the classroom.

Fernette and Brock Eide’s research (Eide Neurolearning Blog, 2005) found that blogging can:

-Promote critical and analytical thinking

-Be a powerful promoter of creative, intuitive, and associational thinking

-Promote analogical thinking

-Be a powerful medium for increasing access and exposure to quality information

-Combine the best of solitary reflection and social interaction

Will Richardson summarized the pedagogy of blogging in his book, Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms (Richardson, 2006).

-He suggested that blogs are a constructivist tool for learning where participants construct knowledge, share ideas, and build upon each other’s work.

-He added that blogs archive the learning that has taken place and provide a historical framework. In such an approach, different learning styles are represented because every person has a voice.

-Finally, blogs teach students 21st century skills that are necessary in a global economy.

On the other hand:

-Commenting and hyperlinking are components that extend blogs beyond basic publishing.

-The comment function allows others to communicate relevant feedback thereby facilitating the "scaffolding of new ideas" (Ferdig & Trammell, 2004, p. 1).

-Hyperlinks provide “relational and contextual basis of knowledge and knowledge construction” (Ferdig and Trammell, 2004).

-Many blogs include references, visuals, and hyperlinks to related topics within the blog. In addition to expanding the students’ frame of reference, these links also provide opportunities to verify content and check other views.

-Students can become subject matter experts through exposure to vast amounts of information thus increasing interest and ownership of learning (Ferdig & Trammel, 2004).

-Exposure to different perspectives enables students to form opinions based on varied content rather than the controlled view of a textbook.

My Reflection.

In my opinion, blogging did assist language learners to improve and enhance their writing skill. It is because while writing (err..I mean typing..hehe) something in your blog, automatically your brain will works because you need to think about what you going to write. Therefore, when you always do the thinking activity it will helps your brain to be more creative and in the end of the day you will be someone who always come out and write something with good and creative ideas. So, you will be a good writer!(^^)

Besides that, when you are blogging, you can simply to add pictures or even videos in your writing pieces so that your writing will be more variety and attractive. On the other hand, when you adding pictures and videos, it can be as additional information about what you are talking about. For example, if you want to write a story about your family, you can put your family picture to show your family to the reader. Thus, the reader will be more understand and get the clearer picture about what you write about. So, you will be a creative writer!(^^)

On the other hand, blogging also a platform for sharing and changing information. You also can share your information, thought and anything that you would like to share with the reader of your blog. You can write about whatever you want as long as in it is suitable with the readers. Other than that, you can read another people’s blog in order to get information and gain knowledge from the blogger’s posting and comment received. You also can learn the language used and the way or style of writing skill used by the bloggers or their follower. Thus this will enhance your knowledge and you will be a knowledgeable writer!(^^)

For me, blogging did assist me to improve and enhance my skill writing because when I am blogging I can write effectively and I can teach myself to write often because before this I have feeling sort of lazy to write because my handwriting was so bad. Sometimes, my friends even me myself cannot understand my own handwriting. So with blog, I can write often without worrying that is people cannot understand what I am writing about. When I can write often, InsyaAllah from time to time my writing skill will improve and get better and better. Really hope so!(^^)
